Thirteen Cape Cod high school students are now better prepared to combat climate change after completing the Cape Cod Commission’s Climate Ambassador Program, an initiative to educate, engage, and empower young people on Cape Cod to work together to address the challenges of climate change.

A diverse group of public and private digital inclusion practitioners convened for meaningful discussions toward enhancing digital equity across Cape Cod. The Cape Cod Commission and Massachusetts Broadband Institute brought these stakeholders together at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School on May 16 for an afternoon workshop to discuss challenges and brainstorm solutions to bridging the region's digital divide.

The Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) voted to endorse the region’s annual transportation planning documents on Monday, May 20, 2024.  The Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) is a five-year schedule of construction projects for surface transportation in the region, including roadway, transit, and multimodal projects. The Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) is a list of projects to be completed annually by Cape Cod Commission transportation staff on behalf of the MPO. The Cape Cod Commission is leading efforts to improve internet availability, accessibility, and affordability on Cape Cod, through an assessment of the region’s existing network and by providing municipal digital equity services.

Cape Cod leaders from various sectors, including business, education, nonprofit, and government, came together at the Cape Cod Museum of Art on March 5 for the Cape Cod Economic Summit, a day designed to inform development of the next economic development plan for the region.

The Cape Cod Commission is continuing and enhancing its efforts to collect non-motorist data across the region. Commission staff collect data continuously in specific areas using "eco-counters," portable infrared trackers that use heat sensing to count pedestrians and bicyclists.

The Regional Housing Strategy is a plan that aims to address the region’s housing challenges by providing a set of tools to help Cape communities expand housing opportunities for those who need and want to live here.

The tools include a suite of model bylaws the Cape Cod Commission has developed working with Utile and Outwith Studio. Towns can customize and adopt these bylaws to help encourage and incentivize development and redevelopment of housing that meets the needs of year-round residents.

The Cape Cod Freshwater Initiative is a science-based, information-driven planning process that engages stakeholders and enables action to protect and restore Cape Cod’s freshwater resources. It began in 2021 with an update to the Cape Cod Ponds Atlas. Since then, the team has been working to collect the data needed to make informed management decisions in our ponds and to better understand how they are changing from season to season and year to year.
