Overview
The Town of Eastham is seeking to improve the travel experience for all users of its streets – motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists – through the development of a Complete Streets Prioritization Plan. With funding provided by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, Eastham retained the services of the Cape Cod Commission transportation staff to develop this plan. The study explores transportation improvement alternatives that will reduce conflicts, improve traffic flow and incorporate multi-modal transportation options in Eastham while furthering the creation of vibrant, pedestrian and bicycle oriented mixed-use centers throughout the town.
In 2022, the Town of Eastham was awarded a $500,000 Complete Streets Tier 3 construction grant from MassDOT for the construction of a shared use path along the northern side of Samoset Road to the Cape Cod Rail Trail. The project also includes the realigning of the intersection of Samoset Road and Depot Road to create a conventional T-intersection and the installation of a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) at the Rail Trail Crossing.
