WORKSHOP: Administering a Demolition Delay Bylaw

The Cape Cod Commission will sponsor a workshop on “Administering a Demolition Delay Bylaw” on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Harwich Community Center, Room #3.

Demolition delay bylaws provide a window of time to explore alternatives to demolition for qualifying historic properties. All but three of the Cape’s 15 towns have some form of demolition delay bylaw, ranging from six to 18 months.

Presenter Chris Skelly, Director of Local Government Programs for the Massachusetts Historical Commission, designed the workshop for communities already administering demolition delay bylaws.  The workshop will discuss bylaws strengths and challenges, effective use of the delay period, and necessary sections of a well-crafted bylaw.  Best practices and success stories from around the state will also be presented.

The workshop is free, but seating is limited so pre-registration is required.  Please contact Sarah Korjeff by email or phone by Jan. 20 to register for the event.
