Outer Cape Bike/Pedestrian Master Plan Underway

Representatives from Provincetown, Truro, Wellfleet, Cape Cod National Seashore, and the Cape Cod Commission will host the second in a series of public workshops on the Outer Cape Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan on Thursday, March 26, 2015, at the Wellfleet Public Library, 55 West Main Street, from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m.

The National Park Service, through Cape Cod National Seashore, is partnering with the towns and the Commission to develop plans for an interconnected bicycle/pedestrian network linking the towns with the Seashore, the Cape Cod Rail Trail, and other destinations within the communities.

The Master Plan project is funded by a Paul S. Sarbanes Transit in the Parks grant, a Federal Transit Administration program established to address increasing vehicle congestion in and around national parks and other federal lands. To comply with federal mandates, Cape Cod National Seashore staff will conduct an environmental assessment.

Participants at the previous (October 2014) workshop identified favorite bikeways and pedestrian routes in the three towns, as well as hazardous locations for bicycling and walking. The purpose of the upcoming workshop is to gather public input to determine preferences for primary and secondary route concepts. In addition to public meetings, opportunity to provide written comments and review project-related information is also available through the project’s website.
