Healthy Transportation: a look at the region’s sidewalks
Commission staff is working on regional mapping tool to assess walkability in neighborhoods and identify areas where providing bicycle and/or pedestrian improvement would expand healthy transportation options and improve safety. The tool will assist in the prioritizing of future investments.

Brewster Beach Shuttle Concept
To assist the Brewster Coastal Committee with one of their initiatives, to improve access to Brewster beaches, members of Commission transportation staff, in consultation with Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority staff, are developing a beach shuttle conceptual model. The conceptual model will identify potential routes, schedules, vehicle types, costs and funding options. The Town will use the results of the effort evaluate the feasibility of utilizing a beach shuttle in improve beach access.

Eastham DCPC Transportation Management Plan
Commission staff is developing conceptual improvement alternatives for Route 6 in Eastham to address safety issues for all users of the roadway. Staff will seek feedback on these alternatives from the community and present the finding in a report. The report will serve as a resource for the Town and the state as they consider development proposals along the corridor and infrastructure improvements to the roadway.

Bicycle and Pedestrian Counts
Over the summer months, the Cape Cod Commission conducted bicycle and pedestrian counts across Cape Cod. The data collected is used to support a variety of regional and local projects aimed at improving traffic flow and safety.

Bourne Rail Trail Project Development
Commission staff has been assisting the Town of Bourne with a proposal for a half-mile segment of bicycle trail, next to the existing rail line, from the Cape Cod Canal Bikeway to Monument Neck Road. The path would connect the Cape Cod Canal Bikeway to the Gray Gables neighborhood and is part of a vision to connect the Cape Cod Canal Bikeway to the Shining Sea Bikeway in Falmouth.

Traffic Counting
Cape Cod Commission staff completed the 35th summer season of its annual Traffic Counting Program. The data collected from all 15 towns is used to analyze existing traffic demands on Cape Cod’s roads, and support a variety of regional and local projects aimed at improving traffic flow and safety. capecodcommission.org/counts
