“We live in a world of data…”
With its sharp introduction video, the Cape Cod Commission released its new quarterly newsletter known as BART, or Barnstable Area Regional Trends, at the Smarter Cape Summit. BART presents analyses of economic trends important to Cape Cod, with its inaugural issue looking at the local economy in the off-season.
“BART is intended to provide objective, useful and interesting insights on the Cape’s economy – converting raw data into information is the value addition it offers,” said Dr. Mahesh Ramachandran, the Cape Cod Commission’s environmental economist, who has spearheaded the project. “Over time, it should help us understand the nature of the Cape’s economy, informing the long-term economic strategy for the region.”
Data sources for the current edition of BART include the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and Department of Revenue, the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, the Municipal Data Bank, and Moody’s analytics. In the future, additional sources may include Commission surveys, remote sensing, and assessment and census data.
