Overview
As a part of the Cape Cod Commission’s ongoing effort to provide transportation planning and technical assistance to the Cape communities and region, a regional inventory of semi-controlled intersections with overhead flashing intersection control beacons (ICBs) was conducted. Overhead flashing intersection control beacons may be found at intersections where traffic or physical conditions do not justify conventional traffic control signals, but crash rates may indicate the possibility of a special need. Commission Transportation Staff collected data at each location, including photos of current conditions and equipment as well as traffic volumes, speed limit, and crash data. Traffic signal warrants were conducted for select locations. Overall, there are currently 18 overhead ICBs in operation across Cape Cod as listed below.
