Planning for A Resilient Cape Cod Economy: CEDS Public Comment Period Open

The Barnstable County Economic Development Council (BCEDC) has released the 2019 draft update to Cape Cod’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for a 30-day public comment period. Members of the public are invited to review and provide feedback on the document.

The Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy serves as a blueprint for economic development across the region. The BCEDC serves as the CEDS strategy committee and has been working with Cape Cod Commission staff to implement a public participation process to help shape the draft document. Regional leaders across sectors that influence the economy and economic development have played an integral role in shaping the action plan to achieve the vision of a region that cultivates creativity, diversity, and innovation to build a strong and resilient economy.

The CEDS is supported by the growth policy and goals established in the Regional Policy Plan, which reflect the interconnectedness of Cape Cod’s natural, built, and community systems and their impact on the regional economy. It includes an action plan to address some of the region’s major economic challenges, including climate change, housing, demographic diversity, and others, and provides information on key industries supported by Cape Cod’s unique character, natural environment, and proximity to the coast. Implementation of the CEDS relies on joint commitment and collaboration and the action plan seeks to provide forums for local and regional organizations to identify and execute economic development policies and projects, and advance economic resiliency.

Upon endorsement of the CEDS by the BCEDC and adoption by the Cape Cod Commission, the document will be submitted to the U.S. Economic Development Administration for adoption.
